What You Don’t Know Can Hurt Your Credit
Has it been a while since you’ve seen a copy of your personal credit report? If you’re considering a real estate purchase, then it may be the time to get one.
It has been estimated that two out of every five people have errors in the information on their consumer-credit reports. This can cause lengthy delays in the approval process and can cause reason for the denial of credit, including a mortgage.
A good time to check up on credit reporting agencies is when you don’t need the credit. You don’t need the added stress while trying to buy a home. Get it taken care of prior to buying a home because it could take months to straighten out.
Some major independent credit reporting companies are Equifax, Trans Union, and TRW. You can check your credit at all three companies. Ask your mortgage or commercial banker for assistance if you have difficulty.
Many homeowners share a common misunderstanding that house payments can be made up to the 15th of the month without being considered late. The house payment is actually due the first of every month. If it is received anytime after that, it will be considered and reported as late.
